Plein Air Sac is a community arts program administered by Youth Connections Unlimited and its partners. The program was launched in 2021 with the goal of raising awareness about the need for youth art education opportunities while engaging the Sacramento community with public art events. Youth Connections Unlimited is a California nonprofit corporation and is registered as a charitable organization under section 501.c.3.

WHAT WE DO

Community Arts

To raise community awareness for our mission and fund our efforts to increase youth art experiences, Plein Air Sac hosts public painting days throughout the region. In 2021, we hosted six days between July and September. This year, we are hosting thirteen painting days, from May thru October.

At these events, we bring together artists and the public in a celebration of the Sacramento tradition of en plein air. Many of these events are open to the public and art classes are taught by local artists.

Youth Arts

We are currently planning several Youth Art Days of Learning to take place on select painting days throughout the season. On these days, children will learn about color, form, and composition. Each child will also have the opportunity to take home a painting of their own.

Support Our Mission

To meet our program goals, we are seeking individual and business sponsors for our public painting days, Youth Art Days of Learning, and our partner's boot camps. We ask sponsors to support us for three or six months and, in return, we will feature them in our community outreach programs.

2021 RECAP & 2022 GOALS

2021 Summary

In 2021, Plein Air Sac had a goal to broadcast its mission to as broad an audience as possible.

As a result, of its focused approach on program awareness, Plein Air Sac’s mission was viewed more than half a million times via traditional media, social media, email, and advertising. This, combined with our events, helped us raise our profile and secure key partnerships that led to funding art supplies for students, the Food Literacy Center, and sponsoring an aspiring artist to the Croker Art Museum summer art boot camp. And, for 2022, we have set our sights even higher.

What We'll Do in 2022

Over the next few months, we will be relentless in our pursuit to get sponsors for one hundred children to attend art programs administered by Youth Connections Unlimited and local organizations.

This year, we are partnering with the local nonprofit, Sacramento Community Education & Arts (SCEA) to sponsor children for SCEA’s week-long art camp that focuses on both the visual and performing arts. And, later in the year, YCU will host A Day of Art & Learning, where our staff will work with students of all skill levels to bring them fun, informative art learning experiences.

In addition to these youth art education goals, Plein Air Sac intends to expand its mission’s reach by deploying a media strategy that will target over one million people in the greater Sacramento region. To achieve these goals, we will be calling on all of our community for support.

OUR HISTORY

Plein Air Sac is a community arts program administered by  Sacramento-based nonprofit, Youth Connections Unlimited (YCU). YCU is a charitable organization that has been dedicated to providing education and mentoring programs for at-risk youth since 2006.

Historically, the YCU focused on programs that educated youth about how to manage environments negatively impacted by crime and violence. However, in 2021, the organization underwent a leadership change that resulted in a shift of focus on youth art experiences as a means of inspiring youth confidence and creative thinking.

In 2021, Plein Air Sac was introduced by YCU’s new leadership for the purpose of raising awareness of the organization’s mission. 2021 is considered by YCU as a success for bringing attention to the organization’s mission to the community, while also providing youth art experiences at its outdoor painting events.
